Brutalism in Aberystwyth

(Paraphrasing Wikipedia) Brutalist architecture is a style that emerged during the 1950s in the United Kingdom, among the reconstruction projects of the post-war era, driven by great need and very limited resources. Brutalist buildings are characterised by minimalist constructions that displays structural elements over decorative design. The style commonly makes use of exposed, unpainted concrete or brick, angular geometric shapes and a predominantly monochrome colour palette. There are many striking examples to be seen; well known are Leeds University and Preston Bus Station..

Aberystwyth escaped both Luftwaffe attention and over-enthusiastic 1960s town planning, but nevertheless sports/sported some interesting examples. Foremost surviving is the university campus, constructed when large expense was still a possibility. Now departed is Plas Morolwg which dominated/disfigured the harbour viewscape for some years - neglect took its toll.

Perhaps some examples survive undiscovered: do please contact me with updates. A probably incomplete map exists.
